Transformative Connections to launch findings from ICT and Peacebuilding Report
By John Brennan
September 17, 2015
Transformative Connections (or TranConn) are set to launch their report into Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) and Peacebuilding in Northern Ireland #PeaceTechNI.
The report which was funded through a Nesta “Bright Ideas” research grant and explores the role ICT’s can play in peacebuilding.
TranConn examine international case studies to establish the importance and relevance of #PeaceTech to Northern Ireland.
The use of international case studies evidences contrasts and comparisons with peacebuilding in Northern Ireland and the role technology has to play therein.
The report focuses on organisations such as Elva and Mahallae who have used technology to engage with peacebuilding initiatives across the globe.
The report recommends that a Mahallae style platform for civic engagement should be adopted in Northern Ireland – as it seems best suited to challenges presented in the region.
TranConn have also called for a ‘Build Peace’ Conference to be held in Northern Ireland in the near future so as to draw both national and international attention to the use of Peace Tech in Northern Ireland.
These conferences have historically been held in both Cyprus and MIT.
More information will be available after Dr Orna Young and Mr Enda Young present the report on Thursday 17th September, at The Thinking Cup on the Lisburn Road, Belfast.
Transformative Connections is a technology and research consultancy organisation promoting peacebuilding and positive social change.
